  4.      The  Stock Picture Library was designed to help keep
  5. track of all those slides and negatives professional and
  6. amateur photographers accumulated.  It will track up to 2700
  7. pictures on a separate data floppy or an unlimited amount of
  8. pictures on a hard disk.  All the user must do is to enter
  9. each picture along with its details and the program will do
  10. the rest.  An index number is assigned to each slide or
  11. negative.  This number is comprised of a page number and a
  12. sequence number such as 001-04.  This slide can be found on
  13. page 1 and sequence number 4.  The best way to store slides
  14. and negatives is with something like what Vue All or numerous
  15. other manufacturers make.  It is simply a see through ,
  16. notebook size piece of plastic with pockets for slides or
  17. negatives.  These items are stored in a standard notebook and
  18. are very inexpensive.  They can be found in any good camera
  19. store. This  program  was  can also be used with slide trays
  20. instead  of  the plastic envelopes.   Instead of entering a
  21. page number simply enter  a tray number.

  23.      The real power of this program is its powerful search
  24. capabilities.  A user can search the entire file using any
  25. combination of date, topic, location and up to four
  26. descriptions.  For example say you  wanted all the pictures
  27. taken after a 10/1/85 and  contained  the words 'children',
  28. 'and 'babies' in the description.  A list of pictures with all
  29. these search criteria will then be generated and can be  sent
  30. to either the screen or printer.   The advantage of  keeping
  31. organized  picture  files  is  obvious.    For  the
  32. professional  who frequently  sells  pictures to magazines,
  33. the time  saved  over  old storage methods is great.   When a
  34. request comes for a certain type of picture  a  potential list
  35. can be generated in minutes.   The  amateur benefits also from
  36. having orderly slide and negative files.   Whenever you  want
  37. to  pull out the old picture of your children  to  have  it
  38. enlarged  or  entered in a contest,  you will be able  to
  39. locate  the negative immediately.

  41.      Configuring your computer

  43. The first thing you must do before using this program is to make sure that
  44. your CONFIG.SYS file contains the following lines
  45. files = 20
  46. buffers = 20
  47. Most people with hard disks already have this parameter set, if you don't
  48. please modify it.

  51.      Entering Pictures
  52.  
  53. Start the program by typing GO.
  54. The most important thing to remember when you first use the program
  55. is that after the first session of entering pictures you must reindex
  56. the whole file. This can be done by selecting REINDEX from the main menu.
  57. The program will automatically number the next picture for you.  The
  58. only thing to remember is to change the page number when a page or
  59. tray becomes filled.  The program has no way to know if a new page was
  60. started.  The program will default to today's date which it gets from
  61. the computer so if a wrong date is current in the computer then it
  62. will also be wrong in the date portion of the entry page.  Also slides
  63. are assumed as a default in the type of picture but as you can see
  64. just about any type of film is supported.  Select a topic that best
  65. suits the picture to facilitate any searches that you will do.  The
  66. location of the picture is entered next and can be as detailed as you
  67. desire.  Next is the only mandatory item that must be entered.   This
  68. is the description.  The best way to handle this is to enter a short
  69. sentence that best describes the picture such as ,  'A small child
  70. with its mother walking to school.'  When you go to search for this
  71. picture any word of part of word that is in the description will be
  72. found.  Now a very helpful suggestion.  If you own a keyboard macro
  73. program such as Super Key or Pro Key then your life can be that much
  74. easier.  Especially if you take a lot of pictures of the same subject.
  75. All you have to do is simply assign a macro to a description or
  76. whatever and whenever a similar picture is entered then simply hit the
  77. special key and the words are written automatically for you.  This
  78. makes all the data entry much faster.  I strongly suggest any user to
  79. purchase one of these programs.  They have many other benefits for
  80. other uses and are relatively inexpensive.

  82.      Edit / Search

  84. First the program asks for the picture index number.  If this is
  85. unknown then you have two options.  First you can start at 001-01 and
  86. go through the whole file or you could go to the report section and
  87. generate a list of all the possible candidates.  Then after selecting
  88. the correct picture enter its index number and proceed to edit the
  89. picture.  When you are in the edit function you can go forward or
  90. backward in the file, you can search for another index number, or you
  91. can edit the current picture.

  95. This is a feature which you will not have to use except for the
  96. first time you enter pictures but if for some reason the
  97. program can not find an index number which you are positive
  98. exists then try to reindex the whole file and see it the problem is solved.

  101.      Change data drive
  102.  
  103. Here a user can select where the data file is to be kept.  It is
  104. possible to run the whole program and its data file on one drive but
  105. the capacity will be severely limited.  Using drive B as the data file
  106. allows you to enter up to 2700 pictures per disk.  Of course with a
  107. hard drive there is no limit other than the capacity of the hard disk
  108. itself.  When first started the program defaults to the A drive for the
  109. data files  so I suggest the first thing you do is change the drive.

  111.      Keyword Report

  113. The program will ask for all the search criteria.  The date must be
  114. entered as 00/00/00.  You need not fill all the blanks.  Simply enter
  115. only the data you think is necessary to find your picture.  One
  116. important thing to remember, on the description lines you may enter
  117. one description on each line only.  Up to four separate descriptions
  118. are allowed but only one per line.  Throughout the program the case of
  119. the letters in not important.  Any combination will do because the
  120. program converts all entries to upper case.

  122.      Report

  124. This will print the entire file starting at the begining.  This is
  125. useful if you want a hard copy of all your pictures.

  127.      This version of the Stock Picture Library is a Demo but
  128. all the features described above will work except that the total
  129. number of pictures allowed is limited to 50.  If after trying the
